Week 2 + Week 3

The Two Clients I used are:
Steven Hawking
I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
Florence Nightgale
"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within."

Screen Shots of UT 2004

Note that the screen shot couldn't be taken with fraps, because the applied textures dissappear while in game, hence a screen shot from the UT editor was taken instead.

The common experience in which we all have in shopping centres of watching red laser price scanners and barcodes is used as a mechanism to explore the Electro liquid Aggregation that occurs between Steven Hawking and Florence Nightgale. Déjà vu is an effect that can only occur under the speed of light, the barcode texture with 300 000 000 encoded beneath is indeed the speed of light, the red alert tinting effect is used to indicate how Stephen Hawking’s science and Florence Nightgales medical applications are closely intertwined.

The Florence Nightgale believed in the triumph of inner beauty over superficial beauty. This concept is encapsulated in the red lighting, radiated internally, seeping into the darkness that attempts to engulfs the patients in the hospital. The confined colour shows a sign of love and care but ironically also shows danger in fighting against sickness.

The Steven Hawking’s Laboratory is divided into three levels. The structure and layout is specifically designed to create a sense of déjà vu. This is a phenomenal result of quantum physics and Einstein’s special relativity in which Hawking explored through his entire life. The complex phenomenal concept is explored in such a way that every entrance looks somewhat similar yet different. The responder subconsciously feels that what he or she sees is familiar, and hence the effects of Déjà vu.

Animations & Story Boards

The 3 Animations & Story Boards

SWALLOW'S STUDIO TOWER

EXHIBITION SPACE

PICCININI'S STUDIO ROOM

The Related Animation (Lecture task)

This is a short animation from Final Fantasy VII. It incorporates a range of background buildings and structures which to some degree fall under the theme of destruction, collision and corruption. There are various camera angles in which I found useful in conveying meaning, hence I used it as the sample animation.

36 Textures + Applied to sketchup

The particular textures imported into the Sketchup are as follow: Dry, Stiff, Durable.
Above Ground
The above groud refers to Swallow's Art work, it features a sense of collision through its use of a thin layer of rough rock composition. This is further engaged through the destructive nature of the three towers. The above ground correlates to Swallows conceptual collision between man and nature. The single boot emphasizes human invasion into harsh nature. This harsh nature is also revealed through the artists orange semi arid ground colour. Thus the texture of "dry" is applied to the floor.
Below Ground
Picinni's composition involves the heavy use of metal. This is emphasized through the room. The wheel uses very little support to hold the wheel in place. Hence creates the sense of lacking stiff support. The subsequent "stiff" texture is therefore applied in combination with the "durable metal texture". This texture both obtain engage the word "contemporary" through both post modern appearance and materialistc properties.

Week 02 Independent Study

For the First Sketch Up Task, 2 More sections had to be drawn

the two words are already included in the previous post.

This is the 2nd Sketch up Task requiring to start on a new design.

The two words i chose for the artists is "collision (above ground)" and "Contemporary (underground)".

This design reflected a chain of thoughts. The three towers used to illustrate collision was first inspired through a biblical illusion of trinity. As much as we see magnificant temples in Greece that gradually break down over a prolong duration, a rather symbolic structure was used illustrate the relationship between man and God. The spiral staircase within the cylindrical structure itself symbolizes a process in which man takes to reach the sky and the God above. However, the design not only considers the material and texture collision, bibical structures and religious structures often occur in styles that are no longer or rarely employed. Thus a further collision between the the past and the present is made. Inorder to prevent the building from becoming obsolete it must have a purpose in the future, hence the collosium design is employed to feature the possible use as a sport stadium for example. The collossium design is also slightly modified with a glass transparent performance ground as a interlink between the past (above ground) and the contemporary (underground). Theoretically, performances can be seen by views both above and below ground level. The stair sizes are designed slightly larger such that they may act as seats for the viewing audience. Helicopters can land on the towers, if not otherwise it can be used as an observatory tower.
